Additionally, I consider all tarot cards to be "dual" in their nature - they have both positive and negative meanings.  So, if a card gets placed "upside down", I "rightside up" the card.  I've found that "negativity" arises from the person being read, the situation{s} the person is in, the cards that surround, and/or the position the card in the layout.  {Phew!}

Whatever layout you choose should depend upon the circumstances and your comfort level.  If the person you're reading for complains - says that they're used to a different layout or would like you to use both the Major and Minor Arcana - be honest and explain.  The methods you use are important - both to yourself and to the person you're reading for.  You, as the reader, must be comfortable.  If you're not comfortable, your reading will pick up your negative vibrations - and that is not what the customer {nor yourself} wants.

You'll also find that the longer you read Tarot, the more decks you'll collect.  I rather suspect that all Tarot Card readers are pack rats.  Also, practically every deck that I show pictures for on this website, I own.  {What a pack rat, eh?}   {For a list of the most generally accepted meanings of Tarot cards, please access Tarot Meanings.}

Cleaning your Tarot
I get asked a lot about how I keep my decks "clean".  One because I allow my customers to "touch" my decks.  Two because I do a lot of readings.  And, three because I do readings on the radio and TV and at parties and I have only about a minute in-between readings to "clear" the last vibrations.  So, below are the most usual ways I "clean" my decks {or rune stones, or I Ching coins, or crystals, etc, etc}.

The most common way is to wrap your deck in silk in-between readings.  Silk is used because it's considered a "natural" fabric.  Therefore, cotton, wool, and leather are just as appropriate.  Also, the "wrapping" can just as easily be a bag made from any of those fabrics.  And, very often when there's a longer period of time in-between readings, you can place the deck {wrapped or not wrapped} in a box that's made from gold, silver, copper, or wood.

An added cleansing is to place the deck in a window.  Sunny windows, of course, are much easier to come by - but full moons, new moons, solar events {like midsummer} are just as appropriate.  I use lunar and solar events on a regular basis so that my decks are extra-energy and synergy empowered.

Another way to cleanse your deck is the same as cleaning stones.  Place your deck in a bowl of salt and leave overnight.  {Sea salt is considered the best, but in truth, any salt will do.  Grains, also, are just as good - rice, all of the different grass grains, etc}

Because I do readings at parties and on the radio, I often don't have time to do "regular" cleansing.  So, over the years, I've developed a way to do it quick and on the fly.  First, I shuffle the deck 3 times to place my energies upon the deck.  My energies are positive - I wish for a good, sensible reading for my client.  Then, I ask the client to shuffle the deck at least 3 times so that their energies/questions/problems are transferred to the deck.  Then I do the reading.  And so, onto the next person, I repeat the steps.

Now, of course, on the radio, the client can't shuffle the deck.  So, when I do those readings, I just simply keep shuffling the deck until I lay the cards out.  In between parties and radio stuff, I tell my cards that they did a good job, that they can now have a rest, and do various "traditional" cleansings I've listed above.  {The "talking to the deck" - it's like talking to plants.}

The Star {Miracle deck} promises new and bright prospects and warns you against pessimism.
