Symbols
I can barely touch the surface when in comes to symbols and their magical meanings.  You, yourself, probably know of at least a couple of dozen symbols - like St Christopher medals, rabbit's foot, angel pins, ladybugs, etc.

w  Hearts are not only symbols of love and friendship {modern meaning}, but also, lusty sex {ancient meaning}.  I don't want to offend anyone here - but - starting in the middle of your chest above the breasts, trace a heart around your breasts, meeting in the middle below your breasts - get it!?!  The same applies to the buttocks area when you bend over.  Desmond Morris is the best source for an explanation of why our buttocks areas "match" our breast areas.
w  Knots, as a symbol - best known being Celtic Knots - are based upon the mating behaviour of snakes {a bazillion male snakes trying to mate with one female snake}.  I can't decide whom I feel sorry for - the overwhelmed female snake or all the male snakes that don't make it to the finish line.  So, knots are fertility symbols and immortality/infinity symbols {also being that knots have neither a distinctive beginning nor end}.
    Invariably, you'll find that most ancient fertility goddesses had snakes as one of their symbols.  {It's a good guess that the Medusa myth {a snake-headed goddess} is probably a representation of "patriarchy" superceding "matriarchy".  The Garden of Eden story from Genesis is also an example of the same succession.  Too, I've always found it interesting that the "male" medical profession used a "female fertility" symbol of intertwining snakes for the caduceus.}
w  Circles are easy to see as expressions of infinity/immortality.  Because infinity/immortality was closely related to fertility, circles are also fertility symbols.  And, because the sun and the moon {the origin of circles} consistently "renewed" themselves, circles also mean reincarnation.  Ditto for stars and planets.
    Circles are also protective - we are encircled by Mother Nature on a circular plant.  When creating a circle in a spell, you should always start in the east - the dawn, the rising sun, the beginning of the day, and the direction of communication.

Crystals and Stones
The following list of crystals and stones should be pretty easy to find and are mainly affordable.  You can wear them as jewellery or place them around your home, car, office, etc, or carry them in your wallet, purse, or a small bag {better known as a spell bag}.  Often, the colour of a crystal or stone can have an effect.

w  All agates are grounding stones, which means that you can attain common sense, calmness, and balanced emotions.  Moss/tree agate, the Gardener's Stone, also promotes prosperity.  Blue lace agate brings patience and peace.  Botswana agate detoxifies {in pairs, supposedly helps you quit smoking}.  Ordinary, everyday agate {usually Brazilian} is often dyed different colours.  Fortunately, this human-made manipulation adds colour properties to the agate.
w  The ancients used both amber and amethyst as detoxifiers and healing stones.  Both are balancing.  Amber is not actually a stone - it is fossilized resin of tree sap.  Amethyst being a type of quartz also has quartz properties.
w  Aquamarine, known as the Courage Stone, is uplifting and promotes creativity and tolerance.
w  Bloodstone calms, grounds, and revitalizes.  Those red flecks? - bloodstone is an ancient healing stone.
w  Carnelian, the Actor's Stone, promotes initiative, creativity, and confidence.
w  Citrine {often coupled with smoky quartz} is the Laughter Stone and promotes self-discipline.  {Laughing calms you and relieves stress - with that it's easy to move to the next step - self discipline - it's not actually an oxymoron.}
w  Crystals amplify and promote energy.  Place crystals in a sunny window {same as suncatchers}.  Crystals are great for those "tired" days {and for "energizing" a poorly lit room - hang a crystal & plug in a small light - works!!}.
w  Diamonds and emeralds are known as the Stone of Love.  Diamonds amplify the qualities of any other stone it accompanies. But please "clean" diamonds frequently - they can retain negativity quite easily.  Emeralds also promote growth and harmony and help to lift depression.
w  Garnets both energize and warm.  Garnet, also, promises friendship and renews love.  Garnets come in a number of different colours - red, burgundy, wine, and green - and so, can take on the properties of those colours.
w  Hematite, known as the Bookkeeper's Stone, promotes will power & boldness and attracts

Celtic knots, originally an artistic representation of the mating behaviour of snakes, were fertility/infinity and prosperity symbols - later, were also protection symbols.  Two of these knots are also dogs, one a heron, and one an eagle.
